Having completed numerous renovation projects over the last few years, me and my husband decided it was time to design and build something from scratch.
We purchased a block of land on the Bellarine Peninsula which already had an existing house which was in good condition, so just needed a minor renovation, but the block was big enough to subdivide and we were able to build our “Swedish House” on The Bellarine Peninsula.
The purpose of the build was to create a holiday home that would have a true Swedish feel from both the outside and inside. And we also wanted a home that would entice family and friends to come visit from Sweden. And it worked!
My Swedish background played a big role in the design of the house, and we did a lot of research whilst home in Sweden visiting friends and family. Not only with the interior design of the house but also with the materials we used for the construction of the house.
We also ensured that the house would have a good environmental rating which was very important to the both of us.
We presented our ideas to a friend of ours, Chad Harrison (CHARCHI DESIGN) who is an amazing Building Designer and helped us bring our dream Beach House to life.
Construction commenced late 2014 and was complete within 4 months.
It was all done on a very small budget, but we couldn’t be any happier or more proud of the end result! And it is proof that you can create a beautiful home on a very tight budget.
This house was also featured as a finalist in Home Beautiful Magazines 2017 “Beautiful Room Competition.
